Ephesus
Ephesus was an ancient city located in what is now modern-day Turkey, near the town of Selçuk. Founded around the 10th century BCE by Greek colonists, it became one of the most important cities in the Mediterranean world. Ephesus thrived as a major trading hub and was renowned for its grand architecture, including the Library of Celsus and the Grand Theater. During the Roman era, it served as the capital of the Roman province of Asia and played a significant role in the spread of early Christianity.
Temple of Artemis
The Temple of Artemis, also known as the Artemision, was one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World. Dedicated to the goddess Artemis, this massive temple was located in Ephesus and was known for its grandeur and artistic beauty. The original temple was built around 550 BCE but was destroyed by fire in 356 BCE. It was later rebuilt but eventually fell into ruin. The temple was a major religious site and attracted pilgrims from across the ancient world.
House of the Virgin Mary
The House of the Virgin Mary is a revered Christian pilgrimage site located near Ephesus.
